It's a bad sign when no-one owns up to choosing the book. I understand this is a classic and I felt guilty that I had never read it but now I wonder why it is apparently highly rated. It is ok but a comedy classic? Maybe it's us but no-one found it that funny. Sometimes I think people's sense of humour changes so much over time that it really loses a lot. Huge book with an incredible story! I took a while to get into it but once I was hooked I really could not put it down. I missed my stop on the tube going to work because I was so absorbed - well worth the weight of carrying it around. We all enjoyed it, but it has really put some people off ever going to India. You do get a real feel of chaos and the sheer scale of the culture really hits you. Amazing.
