About Us
The Pitshanger Bookshop was first opened in September 1994 by Bee and Walter Wyeth. Now in our sixteenth year it is the only independent general bookshop in Ealing.
As independents become even more rare we are proud to be going against the tide of chain stores.
Our aim is to give the customer our best possible service, our computer ordering system gives us access to over a million titles for next day delivery and our friendly, knowledgable staff are always happy to help you find the book you want.
We consider ourselves to be an active part of the local community and try to bring writers and poets into our shop for our free evening events as often as possible. Authors who have appeared here include: Mavis Cheek, Bernice Rubens, John Sergeant, Michael Brunson,Tobias Hill, Brian Glanville, Francesca Simon, Gwyneth Rees, Lynne Reed Banks, Michael Molloy, Jane Yardley, poets such as Dannie Abse and Stanley Moss and perhaps most spectacularly, Mehernosh Mody creator of the 'Porte des Indes' Restaurant Cook Book who brought her wonderful chef husband with her and they cooked us a veritable feast right here in the shop! That was a night to remember - and savour.
The staff now includes Katy the Keeshond - our beautiful 5 year old Dutch Barge dog - who is always ready, behind her baby gate, to entertain both children and her more mature fans! She is the perfect pet to introduce to children who are nervous with dogs as she is as friendly as she is furry - as Katy says ' Who is afraid of Virginia Woof!'
Come and visit us and see how different an independent can be!!
